The HM 01 rhythm

Three moves.
One idea intact.

A small, quiet loop through the part of a session that usually breaks your concentration: finding the sound, hearing it, and getting it into Live.

HM 01 — workflow study 01 / 03
How it works

From folder to Arrangement
in three moves.

01

Find it

Pin the folders you live in — drums, textures, vocals — as workspaces. Flip between them in a keystroke, search Live's full tag index inline.

02

Hear it

Select a file and it plays. Immediately. Decoded locally — no spinner, no beachball. Loop it, or listen raw.

03

Insert it

One button. The clip lands exactly at your playhead, on the track you're working on — or a fresh audio track when it can't.

What it does

Everything you keep
reaching for.

01

Pinned workspaces

Several folders open at once, each with its own tab, its own history. The folders you actually use — not Live's idea of a tree.

02

Instant previews

Audio decodes in-app. Select and it plays — no spinner, no beachball, nothing routed through Live's preview tab.

03

Insert at playhead

Playing: at the playhead. Stopped: at the insert marker. Wrong track type? A new audio track is created and named for you.

04

Native drags

Drag real file URLs onto Session, Arrangement, Simpler, Sampler or Drum Rack — exactly what Live expects, first try.

05

Live's tags, read-only

Search Live 12's full tag index — and tag your own samples the way Live writes them, so they show up in Live's browser too.

06

Back. Forward. Recents.

Per-workspace history plus a recents list of what you actually inserted — not a cache of every keystroke.

Under the hood

Read-only by design.
Safe by construction.

HM 01 never writes to Live's database. It reads the index — Places, packs, tags, everything Live already knows — previews audio locally, and talks to Live through one thin Remote Script bridge. If Live is busy or locked, it waits. Your set is never at risk.

It's a native macOS app, not a browser tab. Fast to open, fast to search, fast to close. And it stays out of the way until the moment you need a sound.
